Day 1: Welcome to Venezia

After a 2 hour car ride, a 6 1/2 hour plane ride to Paris, and an 1 1/2 plane ride, we finally arrived in Venice! We collected our bags and proceeded outside to meet our driver, Fernando. He expertly navigated the Venetian streets and dropped us as close to our hotel as possible. Our luggage was then transferred to a boat, while we walked the rest of the way.

We stopped for a short time at our hotel and then hit the streets to begin exploring the city of Venice. Of course we were starving, so we stopped at a pizzeria and had our first taste of true Italian pizza. It was AMAZING!!! After refueling a bit, we were ready to make the trek to San Marco Square in the heart of Venice. As we began wandering down the alleyways and along the canal, we realized that around every corner and over every bridge was another picturesque view. We feel as though we are in a postcard. Venice is quite literally, "picture perfect!" We made many stops to try and capture the beauty we were seeing around us.

As we approached San Marco Square, our mouths dropped open at the gorgeous basilica that was at the head of the square. We of course went inside and were awed by the tapestries, golden painted ceilings, and intricate architecture. We took in as much of the sights of the square as we could. In order to cool off, we stopped to get our first taste of gelato! We sat and watched the boats while we ate. We then started our journey back to the hotel, with a quick stop off at Realto Bridge.

So far, Venice has been more than we could have ever imagined. Though our bodies and feet are tired from lack of sleep and lots of walking, we are not letting it stop us from taking in all of Venice's beauty!

Tonight we are hoping to get a good bowl of pasta and an even better glass of wine:)
